हालांकि, पूर्व भारतीय स्पिन गेंदबाज रविचंद्रन अश्विन ने अब अपने ‘जबरन संन्यास’ की चर्चा पर खुलकर बात की है। उन्होंने कहा कि टेस्ट क्रिकेट और फिर आईपीएल से संन्यास लेना पूरी तरह से उनका अपना फैसला था।

अश्विन द्वारा अपने यूट्यूब चैनल पर हाल ही में Share किए गए एक वीडियो में, यह Clear किया गया था कि टीम के Senior खिलाड़ियों ने उनसे अपने संन्यास के फैसले पर पुनर्विचार करने को कहा था। उनके इस बयान से अब यह Clear हो गया है कि 2024-25 के BGT के दौरान अश्विन के अचानक संन्यास लेने में गौतम गंभीर और रोहित शर्मा की कोई भूमिका नहीं थी।
अश्विन ने कहा,
“No one told me that you should go; no one told me that there is no place for you in the team. Actually, before I took the decision, 2-3 people told me not to take it, but I took my decision. In fact, they wanted me to play more.”
उन्होंने आगे कहा,
“Rohit Sharma also told me to think about it, and Gauti Bhai also told me to think again. But I didn’t talk much about it with Ajit Agarkar. The decision is very personal when it comes to retirement. These are all very individual decisions.”

अश्विन का यह बयान, “No one told me I wanted to play more,” सीधे तौर पर यह दर्शाता है कि कोई “forced retirement.” नहीं था।
जब अश्विन ने अपने संन्यास की घोषणा की, तो टेस्ट कप्तान रोहित शर्मा ने ड्रेसिंग रूम में हुई बातचीत के बारे में बताया, जिसमें उन्होंने कहा था,
“We had this chat when I arrived in Perth. I somehow convinced him to stay for the pink-ball test, and then it just happened. He felt that if I am not needed right now in the series, I am better off saying goodbye to the game.”
ऑस्ट्रेलिया दौरे पर संन्यास लेने का अश्विन का फैसला शायद इस सीरीज़ में उनके Active न होने का एक कारण रहा होगा। बाद में उन्होंने बताया कि अपने करियर के उस दौर में घरेलू सीरीज़ का इंतज़ार करना उनके लिए कोई मायने नहीं रखता था, और इसलिए उन्होंने ऑस्ट्रेलिया सीरीज़ में ही संन्यास का फैसला लिया।
