हाल ही में रिलीज़ हुए वीडियो में, गंभीर ने बताया कि कप्तान के तौर पर सूर्यकुमार की सबसे बड़ी ताकत सिर्फ़ बल्ले से मैच जिताने की काबिलियत से कहीं ज़्यादा है। गंभीर ने यह भी बताया कि भारतीय कप्तान कैसे खिलाड़ियों से जुड़ते हैं और ग्रुप में एक आरामदायक माहौल बनाए रखते हैं, जिसकी हर कोच उम्मीद करता है।
Gautam Gambhir said,
“Surya has made my life a lot easier in this format, and I think he’s a phenomenal leader of men, not by what he does on the cricket field, not by what he does as a batsman, or what shots he has; you can keep all that aside.”
“The way he relates to players, the way he talks to players, the way he spends time with players, how much he’s relaxed on the field—sometimes as a coach you know that you can think about a lot of other things because he’s going to keep the atmosphere pretty much calm, which is what any coach can dream of.”
इसके अलावा, गंभीर ने कहा कि सूर्यकुमार यादव का प्रदर्शन खुद ही सब कुछ कहता है, और मौजूदा वर्ल्ड कप के दौरान उनकी लीडरशिप क्वालिटी ने उन्हें सच में प्रभावित किया।
उन्होंने कहा,
“For me, I think Surya the player, I can keep him aside, but Surya as a leader, for me, I think he’s ticked every box, and he’s just a phenomenal leader, which has made my life a lot easier. Probably it’s a great thing when you have someone like him leading the country because his heart is in the right place and he takes the right decisions, especially when things are under pressure.”
